Nonsuch Mansion with blue sky and clouds

Last week I photographed a wedding at Nonsuch Mansion which is fast becoming a regular wedding venue for me.

The weather was warm and sunny so the newlyweds and their guests spent the time between the ceremony and the meal enjoying drinks on the lawns in front of the mansion.

Outside of the Orchid Room there were two small shrubs from which were hung cards with the table plans and also various photographs of the happy couple.

Bride looks at her wedding dress before dressing

Nico and Karen held their wedding reception at The Churchill Hotel in London but the ceremony itself took place across from the hotel in Portman Square. The couple both prepared in rooms at the Churchill although Karen started her day at the Daniel Galvin hair salon with her Mother Willemijn and her bridesmaids, Lindsay, Julia and Imke. Karen’s dress was made for her by Phillipa Lepley Couture.

The weather was so unpredictable that the decision to hold the ceremony outdoors was only taken 30 minutes before it was due to get underway. However as the bride entered the square with her father and bridesmaids the clouds cleared and the sun shone.

The wedding breakfast included scallops and pan fried sea bass and was followed by several hours of dancing.

Front of RIBA building

The weather held out on Saturday as I photographed a wedding at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London. Anna and Miso held their ceremony and reception at the Grade II listed building which is located in Portland Place just up from Broadcasting House.

The ceremony itself took place on the marble steps that link the reception area with the first floor and the stairs were decorated with rose petals and glass vases containing candles. Miso is Slovakian and Anna from Cardiff so a lot of the guests had travelled from overseas or over the Severn Bridge from Cardiff.

During the reception a plate was smashed on the terrace at RIBA after which the bride groom swept the pieces into a dust pan. This is a Slovakian tradition and symbolises how the newly weds will cooperate in their new life together.

This weekend I photographed a wedding with a distinctly Scottish flavour to it. Caroline and Richard were married at St. Columba’s Presbyterian Church of Scotland in Pont Street at 4pm and, although the weather was pretty chilly, at least the showers that had been predicted held off.

After the ceremony the guests travelled by London Bus to the wedding reception at The Caledonian Club near Belgrave Square. Whilst they were being welcomed into the club we took the bride and groom for a walk around the nearby Wilton Terrace to give them chance to draw breathe and to allow time for some relaxed photographs.

The flowers at St Columba’s and around the Caledonian Club were all supplied by Judith Blacklock who also created Caroline’s beautiful bouquet.

During the wedding breakfast the bride and groom and their guests were entertained by the hilarious Three Waiters and the day was finished off with a Cailidh in the Caledonian Club Ballroom.

On Saturday I travelled down to the Surrey countryside to photograph a wedding at Bury Court near Farnham. The weather was perfect, a warm spring day with just a few clouds in the sky.

Geoff and Sarah were married in the The Barn and then had a drinks reception out in the gardens of Bury Court. Inside, the room and tables were decorated with flower arrangements by Exceptional Flowers and the delicious catering was by Jacaranda.

Beyond Weddings Party at The Dorchester

Lloyd February 17th, 2010

Earlier this week I went along to another wedding industry event, this one held by Chelsea Bidwill the owner of Beyond Weddings. Beyond Weddings offer a gift list service which helps couples build their home and it’s interior rather than their collection of toasters and napkins!

At the party, held in the Crystal Room of the Dorchester, were the good and the great of the London wedding scene (oh yes, we have a ‘scene’, you know!). The people I chatted with included Victoria and Simon from Euphoric Flowers, Julia Boggio, Benita and Jade from Nonsuch Mansion (surely the best new venue in years!), wedding planner Mark Niemierko, florist Orlando Hamilton, and celebrity make-up artist Lina Cameron.

Below are some of the snaps I grabbed of the event, thanks again to Chelsea for hosting the evening.

Lucy and Charlie were married in the Rossetti Room at Chelsea Register Office at 2pm. The weather in London was beautiful with temperatures in to the 20′s and a warm, late summer, sun putting a smile on everybodies face. Perfect weather for a wedding!

The Rossetti Room (named after the local Victorian artist, Dante Rossetti) was the perfect setting for the Bride and Groom and their twelve guests. There was a Stevie Wonder theme in the music chosen for the wedding ceremony; the Bride walked in with her Father to ‘I was born to Love Her’; as the marriage certificate was signed ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ was played (natch!) and as the newlyweds left the ceremony room we could hear the uplifting ‘For Once In My Life’.

We then drove out to the suburbs of West London for the wedding reception at Cambridge Cottage which sits on the edge of Kew Gardens. Before a further forty or so guests arrived I was lucky enough to take the Bride and Groom for a walk around the gardens where we got some fabulous shots in the late afternoon light. Lucy looked gorgeous in her Vera Wang dress and Jimmy Choo shoes and she was wearing a fluffy throw that I couldn’t stop stroking (is that wrong?).

Rachel and Mark were married at St Pauls church in Chiswick at 2.30pm. We were expecting the forecasted rain to be with us that point but, thankfully, it held off until later in the day. The wedding ceremomy was enlivened by the Elysian Choir who sang beautifully throughout but really sent shivers down the spine with a rendition of Handel’s Zadock the Priest whilst the marriage register was being signed.

After the ceremony the Bride and Groom were whisked away in a Rolls Royce Phantom with the guests enjoying a glass of Champagne on there journey aboard a red Routemaster bus.

The wedding reception was held at the 16th century Great Fosters Hotel near Egham. As refreshements were served I managed to get some time to photograph the newley-weds around the grounds. Rachel was wearing a stunning dress designed by Caroline Castigliano and it was complimented by a beautiful bouquet from the very creative team at Euphoric Flowers.

Euphoric also supplied all the floristry inside the Tithe Barn which is where the wedding breakfast was served. The room looked amazing and no little credit should go to Kelly and her team at the Bespoke Wedding Company who coordinated the whole day.

A Sunday wedding this week; it was a sweltering 30c in London and although it’s nice to have the sunny weather I couldn’t help thinking that perhaps we could do with a bit of rain to ease the drought…

B12 0227 Wedding Photography at the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists
Anyway, Genevieve and Jason were married in the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists on the edge of Regents Park. We were lucky enough to enjoy two ceremonies; a civil ceremony, including the official register signing, preceded by a very unusual inter faith celebration. The couples Christian and Jewish backgrounds were both represented in the hour long service in which ministers from both faiths took part.

B12 0254 Wedding Photography at the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists
The cosmopolitan nature of the wedding was also emphasised by the different origins of the families; Genivieve and her family are from Hong Kong whilst Jason’s roots are in South Africa.

B12 0352 Wedding Photography at the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists
The guests were fortunate enough to see the bride in three different dresses throughout the day (apparently there was a fourth as well!) whilst the Groom, rather conservatively, wore the same morning suit from start to finish.
